Sea Lion is the first project ACKommodation.Design tackled on Nantucket. Located on a beautiful corner lot in Tom Nevers with water views, and 3 acres of green, this little gem had been sadly neglected for years. Knowing the house was sound, we set to work beautifying. The first things to go were the popcorn ceilings and track lighting. After that we painted every square inch of the place. Utilizing a nautical theme, we painted the floor in the main room Pacific Ocean Blue, and everything else white  - and I mean everything. We accented and grounded all that white with a custom brown/grey stain on the beams and stair treads. We changed out the interior doors from hollow core to 4 panel, added overhead lights to the guest bedrooms, and rehauled the bannister to cleats and lines. Finally we set to work renovating the kitchen and master bathroom. In the kitchen we took advantage of the solid wood cabinets, and simply refaced with new shaker doors and painted them with our favorite Ralph Lauren metallic bringing in cool shades of grey. We used quartz on the countertops as this is a rental, and nothing will scratch or stain them, and finished with some fish scales for a backsplash tile. The masterbath is small, and nothing was going to change that, so we embraced it's quaintness and went with a mermaid theme. We used custom made mermaid scale tiles in grey, as a tub surround, and accent wall. With a new vanity and Kohler fixtures, the room looks nothing like when we started. The final project we took on was the fireplace mantel and hearth. We retiled the hearth with river rocks in an organic shape to mimic a natural cascade. All-in-all the house maintains a whimsical feel while catering to a sophisticated crowd of renters. All the fabrics are perennials/sunbrella in order to withhold heavy traffic. The work still marches on at Sea Lion, as plans for the fall are to change out all the doors and windows, add shiplap to the public spaces, and build out a dormer in the loft in order to take advantage of the incredible water views. As with all our clients, we made videos to market the listing, and the renters have been coming in steady.
